Materials
High-fired frost-resistant terracotta, unglazed, with a single large drainage hole. Frost resistance comes from firing temperature and clay body; a low-fired pot absorbs water, freezes and spalls off in sheets.
Care
They will develop a white salt bloom on the outside, which is limescale and fertiliser coming through the clay, and is a sign the pot is doing its job. Scrub it off with a brush and water if it bothers you.
